Lock rekeying is when a locksmiths takes apart a lock and puts it back together so that it will no longer work with the old key.
The teeth of a key are like a code. They match up to the same code as the tumbler inside the lock.

When we rekey a lock, we change the code that the tumbler will accept. When the old key tries to enter a lock, it no longer has the right code to open it. This same method can be used to change locks so they all open to the same key.
